Inspiration and a calming retreat was needed for our client’s new family bathroom.

THE CHALLENGE

Our client approached us following a recommendation from their neighbour whom we had designed, supplied and installed a bathroom to help provide some bathroom inspiration for their new family bathroom.  The couple travelled a lot through work and with their sons having left home they wanted us to design a retreat to return home to after their long haul flights.

Sharing a family bathroom means we had to think of an inspirational design to cater for every need.  Located adjacent to the master bedroom this bathroom was practically ensuite.  Wishing to include a separate bath and shower instead of the original arrangement of a shower over the bath we looked at clever ways to incorporate both of these within the room.

Initially contacting their existing architect they were not convinced with the proposed designs so visited our showroom for an alternative solution.  Working closely with them they fell in love with our design incorporating both a bath and a separate large walk in shower.

They were also looking for a room that would be easy to clean and maintain, planning ahead for their retirement.  The original bathroom offered very little storage so one of the main priorities was to substantially increase this making it more localised to the vanity area as opposed to a separate cupboard.

THE SOLUTION

Desiring a separate bath and shower we looked at clever ways to incorporate these into the design.  The original room had a boxed out area for storage, with the original architect plans we decided to remove a structural wall.  This gained valuable extra space allowing us to include both a bath and separate walk in shower within the design, we also boxed out another wall allowing us to recess the mirrored cabinet by Schneider and WC cistern into the existing bedroom wall.

We designed a generous walk in shower with a Bette Floor shower tray meeting the bath making a large wet area with a feature recess for essential shower storage.  A fixed glass panel with a hinged return gave the client flexibility to increase or decrease the shower area along with ease of entry and minimal maintenance.

We chose Hansgrohe for the overhead shower, slide rail kit and white glass showerselect thermostatic valve which we positioned to not only allow the shower to be put on before entry but also safely control the temperature.  A matching valve was installed for the bath, filled via the overflow filler combined neatly with a pullout handshower so the hose is tucked away under the bath.

To soften the movement around the bathroom a feature Status bath by Carron created curved comfort whilst compact in size it is deep so allows for a luxurious bathing experience.  Laufen’s Space and Val ranges were chosen for the vanity unit and basin creating valuable storage and adding a timeless classic design with gentle contours and elegance without dominating the room.

A generous Ax Spa towel rail by Zehnder was positioned to give quick access to warm towels from both the bath and shower areas.  The overall easy to clean clutter free approach provided practical solutions but also retained the overall sophisticated design.

THE RESULT

The simple yet elegant design of the room creates a relaxing retreat for this busy couple.  Offering both luxurious bathing, generous walk in shower and essential but stylish storage.
