22 Aug Contemporary Classic
We were asked to design this bathroom in a busy family home to withstand the use of three teenagers.
Set on an exclusive road in Surrey, we needed to make sure that this beautiful 1920’s home had a bathroom that was sympathetic to the period style of the property.
We set about creating a practical design that would be stylish yet easy to clean. On the consultation with the homeowner, they expressed that they’d had a bad experience with natural stone, so we suggested large format porcelain tiles that would create a classic look whilst being straightforward for their teens to maintain.
We knew that all the family would be using the bathroom, so we suggested a versatile Hansgrohe Rraindance connect system for the showering area. This model incorporates both a luxurious overhead monsoon style shower for a rainfall effect, and a smaller convenient handset that can be height adjusted.
We also installed a concealed thermostatic shower valve outside of the shower so that each teen can set their preferred temperature before getting in.
Most parents will tell you that getting teenagers to hang up their towels can be a hard work, so we installed a user-friendly designer radiator to make this excuse-free.
To add contrast to the highly polished wall tiles, we made a feature out of a bespoke vanity unit by choosing a rich bookmarked walnut finish.
We didn’t want the teenagers’ clutter to overrun the space, so this had a practical purpose too in providing essential storage. This was matched with a mirrored cabinet above with hidden storage space and essential task lighting.
It’s often the small design touches that can make the difference, and in this bathroom we implemented a shower tray that was colour-matched to the travertine effect flooring to make the floor and tray blend seamlessly.
Likewise, we also matched the lines and size of the mirror to the vanity unit to create a consistent and well thought-out design throughout. Sanctuary are a leading supplier of bathrooms in Surrey.
