Clean Lines and Sharp Design Create Sophistication in this Surrey Kitchen.

THE CHALLENGE

Daunted by the prospect of moving house, this Walton couple with a school-aged son contacted Kate Diss at Sanctuary Kitchens. “They were happy with where they had lived for the past nine years, with lovely neighbours and their son settled in a nearby school so wanted to look at the space they had and see how this could work better for their changing lifestyle,” recalls Kate. One of their main concerns was the dining room – they simply didn’t use it due to having a garden room where they had their dining table. “The brief was to open up the downstairs area and incorporate the unused dining room as well as upgrading the family bathroom and downstairs cloakroom too. They wanted clean lines and a sharp contemporary design. Sanctuary Kitchens and Bathrooms was their one stop shop for everything they needed,” she explains.

THE SOLUTION

The couple already had a builder assigned so Sanctuary was happy to provide the builder with all the necessary paperwork and electrical details to liaise with the build during the installation. “The decision to remove the dividing wall resulted in additional space to introduce an island,” explains Kate.

Cabinetry

“We designed reflective high gloss white units with the integral capped handle, all made to our specification,” explains Kate. “This meant that we weren’t limited to set sizes and were able to order lots of deep drawers for crockery and pans, ensuring that everything was stored away and tidy.” Units feature a combination of storage solutions so that the countertops can be kept clutter free.

Surfaces

“We used a 30mm Nero Zimbabwe granite worktop throughout the kitchen and chose a statement blackcurrant toughened glass splash back to give the kitchen its ‘wow’ factor!” says Kate.

THE RESULT

Appliances

The client was a keen cook and his priority was to include a Fisher and Paykel American fridge-freezer with ice maker and a Fisher and Paykel range cooker. The integrated Miele appliances in the form of washer dryer, dishwasher and microwave kept everything hidden away from sight. The Miele Extractor, stylish, quiet and extremely effective was a perfect choice for this family room.

Lighting and Accessories

“A must for the island was a Sensio pod pull-out power socket, providing 3 power sockets and a USB connection. This is a safe option when using small appliances with electrical leads so that the leads don’t get in the way,” explains Kate. We also added one of these into the worktop near the range cooker so to avoid having cut-outs in the glass splash back. LED under lighting was factory fitted into the thickness of the carcass eliminating the need for the addition of any form of pelmet and was paramount in showcasing the stunning blackcurrant splash back.

“Kate was professional and flexible and the design of the kitchen she created was perfect and we love the product. The kitchen has transformed our house!”
